Objective: Design a cover for a Kids' biography book revolving around Bob Clampett.
I wanted to design a cover for a line of kid biography books using a subject that would normally never be covered for that demographic. As a fan of animation, I wanted to do something that would link to that. Hence, I decided to use Bob Clampett as a subject of the made-up book.
Character Design
On YouTube I located the opening segment to Cartoon Network's The Bob Clampett Show. This opening intro utilized hand puppets in lieu of animation. One of the puppets used in the intro was made to looks like Bob Clampett. As Bob Clampett is famous for Beanie and Cecil (which originated as a puppet show), I wanted to incorporate the use of hand puppets into my final design. Hence, I used screenshots of this video to draw a caricature of Bob Clampett which I incorporated into a simple design reminiscent of the Beanie and Cecil cartoon intro (placing Bob's head onto Beanie’s body).
Logo and Cover Border
As this is to be a book for kids that teaches them about a certain subject, I decided to theme the main part of the cover around a classroom environment. Basically, I created a design that can be used for a fake brand of books whose purpose is to teach various subjects to kids.
Final Cover Design
After assembling all the cover elements together, I went about designing the back cover and the spine thus completing the wrap around for the cover.
